A greek-style world premiere is a concert inspired by texts of Konstantinos Kavafis. The composition by Alexandros Karozas is based on texts by the greek author and is performed by Wiener Singverein and Wiener Kammerorchester on  November  26 at the Konzerthaus

Acquisitions and Donations

Wien Museums is showing acquisitions and donations it acquired over the past 10 years, thus shining a bright light on the city's history. A Care Package, Bruno Kreisky's car, Falco's Helmut Lang stage suit, paintings by Danhauser, Schiele, Alt, and Fendi - 10,000 artworks and artifacts of daily life were bought or were recieved as presents over the last decade.

Tribute to Marcel Prawy

The Volksoper honors the man who brought the musical to Vienna. It was in the 50s that Marcel Prawy introduced the US musical theater to Viennese stages, first at the Kosmostheater, then at the Volksoper. "Kiss me Kate" was the first success, "Wonderfull Town," "Show Boat," and others followed. On December 29 and January 3, soloists of the Volksoper perform songs from these pieces.

100 Characters in 100 Minutes

Arturo Brachetti presents a film-nostalgia variety show starting December 20 at the Museumsquartier. Nosferatu, Judy Garland, Darth Vader, Charly Chaplin – all played by one person? Not only this. Arturo Brachetti changes costumes in seconds plus, he creates a poetic show by walking the audience through 100 years of film history.

Sleeping Beauty

The Vienna States Opera brings the Sleeping-Beauty-Ballet by Peter Wright as of 21st of December. There are many ballet-versions of Charles Perraul´s fairy tale. The Wiener Staatsballett brings out Wright´s version, which is based on Petipa´s. "It is a nice, traditional one. I don´t want to be only a Nurejew-specialist", says principal Manuel Legris.

A Funny Thing...in the Volksoper

An Antiquity-Farce opens in the Volksoper on the 17th of December. "A funny thing happened on the way to the forum" is to be seen for the first time at the Volksoper. Principal Robert Meyer plays the part, which Zero Mostel made popular in the film version - a slave willing to achieve freedom by helping his owner to get a beloved woman, who, as they think, is a courtesane.
