The Belvedere is showing impressive reconstructions of historic exhibits until March.
The Palais Stoclet, its marble staircase, and the 1902 Beethoven exhibition are presented in life-size reconstructions so as to show how important the synthesis of art was for Gustav Klimt and Josef Hoffmann. Also pieces of Hoffmann furniture which are seen in Klimt's famous portraits are exhibited beside those paintings. "We did not want to show only paintings, but show them in a larger context", says director Agnes Husslein. Among the paintings is one by Barbara Flöge, mother of the famous Klimt muse, which was thought to be lost for the last 80 years and was found now in private ownership. "It is a sensation", says Husslein.
